Sid Fielden Yorkshire stalwart says, ‘I have seen this man do the most fantastic things. Geoff Boycott is a wave of admiration for my partner, a wiry, slight, dedicated, lonely man doing a lonely job all these years. We have a scheme where we invite people from disabled organizations to be at the cricket. I remember him having a long chat here at Headingley with a group of blind cricket enthusiasts.
They loved every minute of it and Geoff Boycott was genuinely moved by the experience. Another time at Abbeydale, Sheffield, we were running a schoolboys’ competition and I got Michael Holding to do the presentation of prizes in one interval and Geoff Boycott in the other. These boys were thrilled. I had a letter from one of the fathers saying that his son will never forget that day and wanted to say thank you for arranging for him to meet two great stars.’
