Pakistani cricketer Shahid Saeed was born on January 6, 1966, in Lahore, Punjab. A right-hand batsman and right-hand medium-fast bowler is a former Pakistani cricketer who played in one Test match and 10 ODIs from 1989 to 1993.
Shahid Saeed is luckier for being one of four cricketers who debuted in the same match at Karachi in 1989, along with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Salil Ankola, and Waqar Younis. These days, he is residing in England and works for a company that manufactures rail parts. He represented Pakistan, HBFC (House Building Finance Corporation), Lahore, Pakistan Automobile Corporation, and Pakistan Railways.
In the first Test at Karachi, he scored 12 runs off 14 balls with the help of one boundary before Kiran More’s catch off Kapil Dev bowling. In the first inning, he bowled just 2 overs for 7 runs. In the 2nd innings, he bowled 13 overs and conceded 36 runs.
Shahid Saeed was being a lucky cricketer to be part of the squad that is touring Sharjah in the 1989 Champions Trophy under Imran Khan captaincy. In the 2nd match of the tournament, he made his ODI debut against the mighty side of the West Indies. He scored 22 runs off 43 balls, including one four. As a medium pace bowler, he bowled 3 overs and conceded 19 runs without taking any wicket.
In the 3rd match of Champions Trophy against India, Shahid Saeed came strongly by scoring a match-winning 50 off 65 balls, including 1 six and 1 four, as Pakistan was chasing a stiff target of 273. This inning boosts his confidence, even Imran Khan praises his efforts. But in the next two matches, he scored 7 and 16 against West Indies and India and took no wicket in the bowling. This was quite a satisfactory performance for a young boy, who has just made his debut in international cricket.
So, Shahid Saeed went with the Pakistan team, who won the MRP World Series Nehru Cup in October 1989. He played two matches in the tournament with the modest success of 16 and 5 against India and Australia. A famous win in the Nehru cup didn’t impact his performance. So, he was a member of Pakistan who toured Australia / New Zealand under Javed Miandad’s leadership. In the 2nd ODI at Napier against New Zealand, he scored 14 runs off 30 balls and took 2 for 20 in 7 overs. In the next match at Auckland, he just scored 17 runs.
In Benson & Hedges series, Shahid Saeed played two games with the failure of just 1 and 3 runs. That was the end of his 10 ODI careers. After that, he didn’t select again.
