Zahid Fazal was a right-handed Pakistani batsman, who was born on November 10, 1973, at Sialkot. He played 9 Tests and 19 ODI’s between 1990 and 1995. Zahid Fazal was a highly talented batsman, who made his first-class debut in 1990 for Pakistan Automobiles Corporation. In his first match, he brilliantly scored a half-century in the first inning.
The tradition of Pakistan cricket is to throw the youngster at an early age. A similar case happened with this young guy when he made his international debut against New Zealand in the third ODI at the end of 1990.
Zahid made 5 not out in his first match. He started his Test career against the powerful bowling of West Indies, comprising, Ambrose, Walsh, Marshall, and Bishop. He just scored 7 and 12 in the first Test match against West Indies at Karachi in Nov 1990.
Zahid Fazal played a gallant inning of 98* against India at Sharjah on 25 Oct 1991 in the Final of Wills Trophy. Unfortunately, he could not complete his first hundred due to dehydration. Then, he was included in the Pakistan Squad for the 1992 World Cup, where Pakistan emerged as the winner. Though, he got limited chances in that world cup.
He played his last international match against Sri Lanka in 1995. He just managed to score 23 and 1. After that, he could not return to international cricket and gloomed in first-class cricket. However, he continued to play first-class cricket until 2004.
In the 9 Test matches, he scored 288 runs at 18.00 with the best score of 78. That was his only fifty in Test cricket. He represented Pakistan in 19 ODI’s and scored 348 with the best of 98* along with two fifties.
Moreover, Zahid Fazal scored 5,730 runs in 122 first-class matches at an average of 201*, averaging 34.72, with the help of 12 hundred and 37 fifties. In the List A career, he scored 3,424 with 3 hundred and 24 fifties at an average of 33.56.
